"Are You There God? It's Us."

Exploring Our Relationship with the Divine on These Holy Days

Featuring Rabbanit Tanya Farber, Dr. Shira Billet, Rachel Kann, R’ Dalia Davis… and you.

How many times over this past year have you found yourself asking “God? WHERE ARE YOU?” Or have you found yourself yelling at God? Bargaining with God? Begging God? Thanking God? Or wondering if there even IS a God?

During Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we are invited to “come closer to God.” This is the season of “teshuva” – of returning – coming closer to the Divine. But what does it mean to “come closer to God”? Can we ask ourselves – what exactly is the nature of my relationship to God, to the Divine?

Do I have a relationship with God?

Do I like my relationship with God?

Do I care to have a relationship with God?

What is God’s relationship to me?

Before the high holidays, let’s explore the idea of having a relationship with the Divine. It’s an elusive idea. And an intimate one. And one that has been grappled with for millennia.

We’ve asked three special educators to help us explore these questions together. From the many philosophical conceptions of God, to the evocative and complex liturgy asking us to talk with God, and the very, very personal perspectives of humans trying to understand how to relate to the Divine – Rabbanit Tanya Farber, Dr. Shira Billet, and Rachel Kann will help us pause on the threshold of these holy days – and think about how we want to show up when we knock on God’s door this year.

Wednesday, September 17th @ 8:15-9:45pm ET

Come when you can, stay till you can’t. But, come. We have so much to learn from you.

Please invite someone you think might want to be with us, too.

*As always, SVIVAH welcomes all those wishing to be included in a circle of Jewish women. If you want to be with us, we want you with us and welcome. This gathering welcomes learners of all backgrounds. Our diversity is what makes our gatherings richest. Come be with us. We want to learn from you, too.

HerTorah gathers together a diverse community of Jewish women to connect over our shared heritage, explore our collective wisdom, and elevate our communal experience in learning with and from one another.

HerTorah is made possible in part by support of the Aviv Foundation and The Covenant Foundation and inspired by each one of us.

This gathering is made possible by these wonderful sponsors:
