Tisha B’Av: Listening To A Lament

With Rebbeca Minkus Lieberman, Batsheva Ganz, LMHC, and R’ Dalia Davis

Offered in partnership with Orot: Center for New Jewish Learning

Tisha B’Av — the ninth day of the hebrew month of Av — is a day of collective mourning.

On this mournful day, we want to reflect on the nature of “lamentation.” What does it mean to share the yearning of one’s soul, the ache that one holds? How do we express our own lamentations – and? – how do we listen to the pain of others?

Tisha B’Av is a moment of our lowest low as a nation; can we learn from our own experience of sharing our lament, to better understand how to hear what someone else is holding? What can we learn from the grief of this day?

How can we turn collective grief into an opportunity for a collective "tikkun" -- a chance to do better and take lessons from times of our lowest lows to offer “sacred listening” to others.

Our wonderful educators – Rebecca Minkus Lieberman and Batsheva Ganz, LMHC – are offering us a moment of reflection and introspection, sharing thoughts on ways we might embrace some of these “lessons of lament.”

We will gather on Sunday, August 3rd at 5:00-6:15pm ET.

As always, come when you can, stay till you can’t. But, come. Let’s sit together this Tisha B’Av.

Please invite someone you think might want to be with us, too.
