Carrying Someone Else’s Burden

Empathy. How can we show up for one another better? Each one of us carries our own burdens β€” as individuals, as a community, as a people. How can we help each other carry these burdens?

Below you will find a selection of suggestions to help β€œcarry someone else’s burden” this Passover.

Be it supporting the safety of the London Jewish community. Or supporting widows navigating a war alone. Helping teens who haven’t been in school for over a month do something positive by putting together toy packages for shelters in the North of Israel where so much time is spent in shelters. Supporting and comforting refugees by uniting them with their family pets. Using hand-me-downs to build bridges and neighborhood connections for new immigrants. Or continuing the legacy of a sweet soul who always brought his loved ones Shabbat flowers by sharing free flowers widely.

There are so many ways to show support to those who need it right now. Scroll down for some beautiful ideas.

KUMA β€” Supporting widows in Israel right now – with financial support and training so that they can support themselves and their families. There’s been no school for weeks, they are emotionally supporting their kids and themselves. In additional to financial support and training, KUMA also offers psychological and peer support. https://kuma.sulamot.org/en/eng/

NEW NEIGHBORS PARTNERSHIP β€” Helps new refugee families connect with their neighbors to acclimate and resettle – donating hand me downs, helping someone settle and feel culturally connected in a simple and neighborly way, building connections and relationships www.newneighborspartnership.org

THE FLOWERS MAN β€” Ariel Sosnov z”l was a soldier who fell recently in Lebanon. He brought flowers to his girlfriend every single Friday – so much so, that he left hundreds of shekels to his younger brother, to make sure that even when he was off in battle, his girlfriend would receive flowers from him. In Ariel’s memory – his girlfriend now gives out flowers in multiple cities – setting up pop up flower shops outside of train stations and bus depots on Fridays – encouraging people to come make a bouquet for Shabbat and holidays for FREE, to give them to someone they love. You can sponsor their flowers for the week.  www.instagram.com/the_flowers_man/  Donate here: https://hakoltov.org/

TEENS PACKING TOYS FOR KIDS IN SHELTERs IN THE NORTH OF ISRAEL β€” A grassroots initiative of the Modiin community. Teens in the city of Modiin who havent been in school for weeks, are (being kept busy) assembling toy packages for shelters for kids in the North of Israel living under constant rocket fire.  https://shorturl.at/HUhrZ

CST – London’s Jewish Community Security Trust. In the wake of recent antisemitism, we wanted to be able to tell our British sisters that we love them. https://cst.org.uk/

BRIDGE PUPS RESCUE –  a nonprofit focused on helping immigrant pups (and people!) on the Intl. Bridges between Cd. JuΓ‘rez, MX and El Paso, TX www.instagram.com/bridgepupsrescue/

SEND LOVE TO A FRIEND IN ISRAEL β€” flowers for Pesach, a small gift, anything. Find florists through Wolt, or send them a Wolt gift card so they can get themselves a treat. https://wolt.com/en/
